Assistant Librarian

Location:

National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Sector H-12, Islamabad

Essential Qualification and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or BS in Library and Information Science (LIS) or Information Management (IM) from a Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized university.
  • At least 3 years of relevant field experience.

Desirable Qualification:

  • Diploma or associate degree in Computer Science is a plus.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in academic or university libraries.
  • Familiarity with Koha and DSpace library software is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Assistant Librarian at NUST, the selected candidate will be expected to:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Librarian for day-to-day library operations.
  • Assist in processes like acquisition, classification, cataloging, circulation, automation, and digitization of library materials.
  • Guide and support library users in locating resources, including physical and digital holdings.
  • Offer technical assistance for using online databases and catalogues.
  • Ensure compliance with library policies and maintain discipline in usage.
  • Be flexible with work hours, including evening shifts and weekends, when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of collection development strategies.
  • Proficiency in classification schemes and Resource Description and Access (RDA) cataloging standards.

  • Familiarity with Library Management Systems (LMS) and cataloging tools.
